I am proud to announce that I have been commissioned by the New Mexico Jazz Workshop to compose and arrange a piece for jazz quintet to celebrate the Workshop’s 40th anniversary this year. The piece, entitled Digging the Well, tells the story of the Jazz Workshop toiling in the (jazz) desert of New Mexico to bring a new flow of creativity and expression to people in the state, eventually creating an oasis bustling with musical beauty. My quintet, Five Below, will perform the premiere of the new work on August 6, 2016, at a Jazz Under the Stars concert this summer. Featured at this performance will be John Rangel on piano, Kanoa Kaluhiwa on tenor saxophone, John Bartlit on drums, and Jon Gagan on bass. We will also be performing a number of new compositions of mine, as well as some other choice nuggets of deliciousness.
Buy tickets right now through this link for this concert. Every “Under the Stars” concert is a blast to be at, not only because they take place in the beautiful outdoor venue of the Albuquerque Museum’s amphitheater, but also because there are excellent food vendors and two different bands playing for every show. We will share the stage with Threepenny Cabaret featuring Marietta Benevento that night, who will be performing the music of Kurt Weill.
